Bathroom trip in the middle of the night? Try not to wake up completely. How?
New research on how hunger is related to sleep has focused on two metabolic hormones: leptin and ghrelin. Leptin tells the body it's full, and Ghrelin signals hunger. We need to keep the two hormones balanced to keep from waking up hungry in the night. To help balance these hormones, a light bedtime snack may help. But what is a good choice for a bedtime snack?
For the best quality sleep, your sleeping area should be dark, cool, quiet and comfortable.
Visible light is actually a spectrum of colors, one of which is the color blue. Scientists have learned that blue light suppresses the body’s natural production of melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone that the body produces to help regulate its natural sleep/wake cycle, and the production of melatonin helps you fall asleep and initiate the sleep cycles (Slow Wave, REM, etc.) that you need.
